The Bible is the basis for all of our beliefs. It is the inspired Word of God, and through the Bible we learn about Jesus Christ, sin and salvation, and God’s love for the world.

Jesus Christ is at the heart of the gospel. We believe that God created a perfect and beautiful world, but that it was corrupted through sin by the work of the devil. We see the effects of this sin in our own lives and in the world around us—broken relationships, famine, illness, wars, and so much more.

God, who is loving and sovereign over all things, saves us from this sin through His Son, Jesus Christ, who is our Lord and our Saviour. Jesus sacrificed Himself to pay for our sins through His death on the cross, an act of pure love and grace. As we put our faith in Him, we find forgiveness for the wrongs that we have done, and the Holy Spirit works in us to change our lives so that we live as God first intended us to live when He created a perfect world.

Jesus’ sacrifice for us is completely sufficient to pay for our sins, and that’s what sets Christianity apart from other religions. Our salvation isn’t dependent on how many good deeds we can do. This is comforting, because we still deal with the effects of sin and our weaknesses in our daily lives, though we strive to live in a way that pleases God.

One day, Jesus will return and restore the world to the perfect state in which God created it. Until then, we seek to serve God faithfully as members of this church and encourage each other in our faith.

If you do not know Jesus, we encourage you to read the Bible. We also encourage you to get in touch with us – we would love to pray with you and answer any questions you might have.

Summary of Our Faith and Teachings

We are a “Reformed” church, a name that refers back to the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century. You can read more about our background and church federation here.

We believe that we are sinful, that we are unable to earn salvation for ourselves, and that God offers salvation to us through Jesus Christ out of incredible love, grace, and mercy.

Creeds and Confessions

As a member of the federation of Canadian and American Reformed Churches, we use the following creeds and confessions, which summarize the main beliefs of the Christian faith and explain different biblical teachings. These documents are always subject to the authority of the Bible.

Creeds
  • Apostles’ Creed: This creed outlines the basic teachings of the earliest apostles of the church.
  • Athanasian Creed: This creed describes the doctrine of the Trinity.
  • Nicene Creed: This creed states what Christians believe about Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
Confessions
  • The Belgic Confession: The Belgic Confession, written in Holland in the 16th century as a response to persecution by the Roman Catholic Church, summarizes the main points of Reformed doctrine.
  • Heidelberg Catechism: The Heidelberg Catechism teaches the main beliefs of the Reformed Church in an easy-to-read question and answer format.
  • Canons of Dort: The Canons of Dort outlines the Reformed teaching on election, sin, and grace.
